VCG Achieves Triple Organic Certification: USDA, EU, and JAS
VinaCoffee Group has completed organic certification under USDA NOP, EU Organic, and Japanese Agricultural Standard simultaneously, unlocking premium markets across three continents.
VinaCoffee Group announced the successful completion of triple organic certification in February 2026, achieving simultaneous compliance with the USDA National Organic Program (NOP), EU Organic Regulation (EC 2018/848), and the Japanese Agricultural Standard (JAS) for organic agricultural products. The certification covers 3,200 hectares of Robusta coffee farms across 120 cooperative members in Dak Lak Province, with an estimated annual production of 4,800 metric tons of certified organic green coffee.
Achieving triple certification required a three-year transition period beginning in early 2023. During this time, participating farms eliminated all synthetic fertilizers, herbicides, and pesticides, replacing them with organic alternatives including composted coffee cherry pulp, neem-based insect management, and biological weed control through cover cropping with Calopogonium mucunoides. VCG's agronomist team provided intensive technical support, conducting monthly farm visits and operating a soil-testing laboratory that processed over 2,800 samples during the transition period.
The economic rationale for organic certification is straightforward. Certified organic Robusta commands a premium of $400-600 per metric ton above conventional equivalents, and demand consistently exceeds supply. The global organic coffee market, valued at $9.4 billion in 2025 according to Mordor Intelligence, is growing at 8.2% annually. Japan, our primary export market, is the world's third-largest organic coffee importer, and the JAS label is a prerequisite for organic marketing in Japanese retail channels. The USDA and EU certifications open access to premium roasters in North America and Europe respectively.
The certification process was audited by Control Union, one of the world's leading organic inspection bodies, with field inspections conducted across all 120 participating farms over a six-week period. Key audit criteria included: documentation of input materials for the preceding 36 months, soil and water testing for prohibited substance residues, physical separation between organic and conventional processing, and traceability systems linking certified organic output to specific farm polygons. VCG's existing EUDR traceability infrastructure significantly accelerated this process.
The first shipments of triple-certified organic VCG Robusta departed for Japan in March 2026 — 45 containers of S18 grade destined for organic instant coffee production at a major Kobe-based manufacturer. We project that organic-certified volumes will grow to 8,000 metric tons by 2028 as additional cooperative farms complete their transition periods. The premium pricing and market access that organic certification provides are critical components of VCG's strategy to increase farmer incomes by 30% across our cooperative network by 2030.
